I developed a few mocks for a web-based MMO playing out through a series of web pages and chatrooms to allow for an online RP experience set in the world of my "Anvils of Northwind" story. This project would, of course, require a large population to properly function as the core gameplay would entail human interaction and roles such as city guards and merchants being carried out by real people. The initial mock-up was framed as an idea for an Elder Scrolls RP group, but the hope was to eventually shifted the idea into an original IP. The idea would be to have a living world presented through these player-driven chat logs that are tied to specific regions on a map, specific towns and holdings in that map, and then specific buildings of that town and allowing the community to decide the direction of the overall narrative and interpersonal drama with GM (game masters) acting only to resolve out-of-game conflicts and to occasionally spark major world changes to see how the world responses and whether players have built it to flourish or falter in the face of chaos. Specific game mechanics such as skills or rolling checks would be discussed if this route was pursued.
Alternatively (and more likely) will be to create a story specific to the world of "Anvils of Northwind" featuring characters proposed by the community or in the vain of Prequel (or PrequelAdventure) in which the story would be told through short bursts with a comment section to suggest what the main character should do in the next segment of the story.
The first option would only happen if there's enough interest and would take over as the main project and require bringing on more people to work on the project and help facilitate it. As the initial mock was just a quick fun side-project that I only shared with one or two other people, we would need a few other skill sets to really bring the project to life.
The second option is much easier to create and maintain and I will post a starting page for the story soon (TM) and open a comments section to see if any interest picks up and assess based on that if it's a project worth pursuing.
